Stevie Ray Vaughan: Remembering a Legend

It was 20 years ago today Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a plane crash. As with other great musicians in the past, Stevie died too young, and did not reach his full potential yet.

Stevie Ray Vaughan

SRV inspired many guitarists with his unique tone, pitch and style of playing. A guitar style that has yet to be matched.

Stevie Ray Vaughan: Six Strings Down, The Day the Music Died is a short and sweet post in honor of Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Timeless Tour: Clay Aiken & Ruben Studdard

Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard are just about to finished their Timeless tour. The month long tour proved to be success and well planned except for a few minor changes towards the end of the tour.

The concert at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, was relocated to another location, due to poor ticket sales. The change in venue made the concert that much more intimate and enjoyable for the fans. With humor and wit at the forefront of their repertoire, Clay and Ruben done what all professional entertainer’s do; and it was on with the show.

There had been mixed reviews of the concert and Timeless tour, but as usual in the music and entertainment business, reviews are done by someone who is either not a fan of the artist, or had not even attended the concert, and based a review upon hear say.

Have you attended one of the concerts on the Timeless tour? Here is your chance to give a quick review of the concert. A review by the fans for the fans.

Dazed and Confused: Jake Holmes sues Jimmy Page

Jimmy Page, one of the most respected guitarists of Rock n Roll from the band Led Zeppelin is being sued for copyright infringement.

Dazed and Confused” which was released on Led Zeppelin’s debut album “Led Zeppelin” in 1969 is one of the most diverse and unique songs ever recorded. The songwriting credit on the album goes to Jimmy Page.

Now after 40 years Jake Holmes is stepping forward and claiming he owns the copyright to Dazed and Confused. This comes at a shock to many Zeppelin fans, but also as a shock to everyone in the music industry.

Listen to the following video of Jake Holmes recorded version of Dazed and Confused, which is from 1967. It is strikingly similar to Zeppelin’s version.

So now there is many questions, as why did Jimmy Page change the song to avoid copyright infringement, and claim himself as the sole songwriter.

Who is Jake Holmes?

Jake Holmes is a folk singer who opened up for the Yardbirds on an American tour in 1967. The Yardbirds loved the song, and they decided to do a version of their own on live shows. Their version featured the bowed guitar and extended instrumentals through the song.

So now we know who Jimmy Page is associated with Dazed and Confused.

After the Yardbirds had broken up, they had considered releasing their live version of Jake Holmes Dazed and Confused, but never did so.

When Jimmy Page formed Led Zeppelin, he presented them Dazed and Confused, which had changed the melody, and structure of the song, and copyrighted the song, knowingly it was plagiarism. Page presented the song as an original composition to the group.

Jake claims he had contacted Jimmy many times to discuss and resolve the copyright infringement that apparently exists, and Jimmy Page never responded to any of his requests.

Finally Jake has now sued Jimmy Page for copyright infringement on his song.

According to copyright laws, Jake would only be entitled to revenue from the last three years, this would worth millions just from compilations released in the last few years.

So the burning question remains, why did Jake Holmes wait 40 years to dispute the copyright? and why did Jimmy Page claim the song as an original composition all these years?

Ozzy Osbourne: Scream, Gus G Debuts his Guitar Magic

Ozzy Osbourne does it once again, adding another heavy rock album to a growing list of classic Ozzy albums. “Scream” Ozzy’s newest album shines through the heavy metal dust that he has collected over the last few years.

With a new guitarist Gus G, Ozzy adds another guitar master to the Ozzy worthy ranks. Gus G debuts his guitar magic on Scream, much like Ozzy’s past guitarists.

Here is the lOzzy_Osbourne_Screamist of classic Ozzy albums, with their respect guitar heroes. Although Ozzy has some albums that lack the heavy metal anthems, he does come back with a classic every few years, and with a new guitar hero.

    Blizzard of Oz (Randy Rhoads)

Diary of a Madman (Randy Rhoads)

Bark at the Moon (Jake E. Lee)

No More Tears (Zakk Wylde)

Scream (Gus G)

Gus G has been compared to Randy Rhoads by some critics, and the album Scream does prove it, and gives Gus G (Blizzard of Oz) kind of debut, like Randy had done. Although Randy is still by far the favorite of all Ozzy’s guitarists, Gus G might be the equivalent, but on his own terms, time will tell.

Some of the songs on “Scream” that makes Gus G shine are, Let it Die, Soul Sucker, Life Won’t Wait, Crucify, Diggin’ Me Down, and Time.

Ozzy has once again reclaimed his title as “Prince of Darkness”; the album is pure Ozzy at his best, and Ozzy the only way we want to know him. All the songs on the album are pure metal madness.

Track listing of Scream:

  1. “Let it Die”
  2. “Let Ne Hear You Scream”
  3. “Soul Sucker”
  4. “Life Won’t Wait”
  5. “Diggin’ Me Down”
  6. “Crucify”
  7. “Fearless”
  8. “Time”
  9. “I Want it More”
  10. “Latimer’s Mercy”
  11. “I Love You All”
  12. “One More Time” (i-Tunes Pre Order)
  13. “Jump The Moon” (Japanese Bonus Track)

Scream is a great album, that will be a classic, and part of the Ozzy catalog of classic albums.

Music Releases: Ozzy, Miley Cyrus, and Eminem

Music releases for week of June 22nd, has some big names, and anticipated releases. Some of the new music being released this week include Ozzy Osbourne, Miley Cyrus, and Eminem.

This will be an exciting week for new music, As there are a diverse selection of new music releases, and so many albums, that had been in the pipe line to be released for so long.

Ozzy Osbourne releases his new album “Scream”, which should be quite interesting for many reasons. This will be the first album that Ozzy has recorded without Zakk Wylde. Zakk had been replaced by Firewind’s guitarist Gus G. It will be interesting to see how the guitars will sound on Ozzy’s newest release.

Since the death of Randy Rhoads, Ozzy’s first guitarist after he left his band Black Sabbath. Zakk Wylde had been the most consistent and longest guitar member for Ozzy, and creating the Ozzy sound we have known  for the last 20 years. Gus G, Ozzy’s new guitarist will be the focus for the next few months.

Can't_Be_Tamed Miley Cyrus just recently released her newest album “Can’t Be Tamed”, which we see Miley making her transition from Hannah Montana, to a slightly more aggressive character, which is more or less “you’re typical teenage girl”.

Some of the reviews so far had been very judgmental on Miley’s music, abilities, and image.  One thing we have to remember about Miley Cyrus is she is a teenage girl, so she is naturally going to be going through changes, I think the critics are being a little harsh on Miley.

One thing we can say, Miley does co write all the songs on her latest album “Can’t Be Tamed”, so this is good achievement. Her new album should sell extremely well like the others, her legions of devoted fans are there. Interestingly Miley Cyrus will be someone to watch over the next 5 years, as she matures into a young woman.

Eminem is another anticipated release, with his new album “Recovery”, since it had been delayed a few times from being released. Many critics are giving it a thumbs down, but his fans will be the ones to judge “Recovery”. Eminem had always been an interesting artist, and sells very well. His fans have always been there waiting for him.

Other music being released this week also includes Cyndi Lauper, with her new album “Memphis Blues”, Uncle Kracker with an EP “Happy Hour – The South River Sessions, Dweezil Zappa, with “Return Of The Son Of…”.

The following is the balance of new releases this week.

Sarah McLachlan: Laws Of Illusion Music Review

Sarah McLachlan has released her latest album “Laws of Illusion”, which is an interesting, intriguing, and intimate album. Starting with the theme of the album “Laws of Illusion” it is a clear indication of the albums mood and theme.

The albums theme is love, lost, forgiveness, healing, and learning to love again.

SarahMcLachlan_LawsOfIllusion_cover Laws of Illusion has a great marketing style, which truly reflects the album, its intimate songs and mood. The album art of Sarah sitting on a quarter moon in the sky with stars all around is a wonderful picture.

One look at the picture, and you would first think it is a children’s album, or fairy tale, but in fact it is a fairy tale album, but for adults.

This is one of Sarah McLachlan’s most personal albums to date, that shines on her raw emotions of love, happiness, and reality of life. This album is a “women in music” kind of album, which describes a woman’s feelings.

Songs on the album like Awakenings, Illusions Of Bliss, and Rivers Of Love give the listener the emotions, beauty of the melodies, and the hope of love to come. Sarah does a great job at crafting her songs and melodies, and along with her unique and recognizable voice, which undeniably make them Sarah McLachlan songs.

All the songs on the album are pretty much like a theme album, and a real life fairy tale.

Amazingly “Laws Of Illusion” is an album that kind of goes back to her roots in music, at the same time is very consistent with her singing and melody, but also moves forward, as she has matured in her lyrics.

Sarah McLachlan sings songs about what we all go through, love, love lost, the pain and agony, as well as moving forward and hoping for a new love and life.

Laws of Illusion contain 12 songs, which are remarkably great songs.

Track Listing of Laws of Illusion:

  1. Awakenings
  2. Illusions Of Bliss
  3. Loving You Is Easy
  4. Changes
  5. Forgiveness
  6. Rivers Of Love
  7. Love Come
  8. Out Of Tune
  9. Heartbreak
  10. Don’t Give Up On Us
  11. U Want Me 2
  12. Bring On The Wonder

Sarah McLachlan is one of Canada’s most underrated Divas, and is often over looked since everyone is fixed on Celine Dion, (which in respect to her is fine) but Sarah is the real diva here.

Laws Of Illusion is a great album, and is sure to please all of Sarah’s fans. With Lilith Fair around the corner, the songs on her album will reflect women in music on the upcoming tour.

With over 40 million albums sold worldwide, countless charities she promotes, and Lilith Fair, there is only one thing you can say about Sarah McLachlan, Brava to a Diva.

Music Releases: Christina Aguilera, Jewel

New music releases for the week of June 8th. include Christina Aguilera, Jewel, Iggy Pop, The Cure, and many others listed below.

The two new music releases this week, that are going to be very interesting, would be Christina Aguilera with her new album Bionic, and Jewel with her new album Sweet And Wild.

christina-aguilera-bionic-cd-cover-album-art

Christina Aguilera releases “Bionic”, which is going back to her dance music days of “Genie in a Bottle”, this should be an album that goes back to doing what she had done best in the past.

Christina’s last CD “Back To Basics”, was a change from her usual techno dance music, with a Jazzy style music, which alienated most of her fans.

Since the birth of her son, Christina had been out of the spot light, since then a new queen had emerged in the “Shock and Awe” visual technique.

Will Xtina come back to claim her title of Sexy, Sleazy, and Outrageous performer?, or will Lady Gaga keep the title and challenge Xtina?

The next month, will prove who and how this will happen. Christina Augilera’s Bionic will be reviewed shortly.

Next up on the interesting music releases is Jewel, and her new CD “Sweet And Wild”. Jewel continues her country music stint with Sweet And Wild, with songs such as “Once upon a time, used to feel so fine”, and Sweet and Wild”. Jewel’s last two albums had been a change from her coffee house folk music, which we had known her for.

Front Stage, will review Jewel, and Christina’s new CD’s shortly. The rest of the list is new music that is also being released as of today.

The new CD has some of the classic songs, that Clay had sung on American Idol like Mack the Knife and Unchained Melody, which is guaranteed to please all fans old and new.

Clay-Aikmen-Tried-&-True,-Songs-for-You The best part about Clay Aiken’s new CD Tried and True, it is all classic songs, which we all know, so it gives Clay that ability to really show the world, his God given talent.

Clay does real justice on Can’t Take My Eyes off You, which he gives the song a new feel, to an oldie but goody classic, a real feel good to be in love kind of song.

Crying a Roy Orbison classic, is a great song that Clay and Linda Eder duet together, the two of them have an amazing melody singing together.

On What Kind of Fool Am I, you can hear Clay’s emotions in his voice, which gives the song its extra boast, and makes you feel the raw emotions of the song itself.

The rest of the songs on Tried and True are all great to listen to, and definitely worth buying the album for, nothing that is disappointing at all.

Here are the song titles that are on Tried and True.

  1. Can’t Take My Eyes off You
  2. What Kind of Fool Am I
  3. It’s Only Make Believe

Jimi Hendrix: The Man, Magic, Truth and Legend.

Jimi Hendrix, after forty years made it back to #1 on the Billboard chart for hard rock albums, for his new release “Valleys of Neptune”.

This marks an historic event, and even a Guinness Book of World Records, for the only artist to chart back on billboard four decades after his death, and reach the number 1 spot. Only Elvis comes close with his re entry after twenty six years after his death.

Valleys of Neptune, is clearly a great album of mostly new material from Jimi Hendrix. The Hendrix estate had mentioned they will be making a few releases over the next few years of previously un released Hendrix recordings.

Jimi Hendrix is considered by (Rolling Stone Magazine) the greatest guitarist of all time.

Jimi Hendrix: The Man, the magic, the Truth

This book is possibly the best biography on Jimi Hendrix, which as the title of the book mentions, The Man, the Magic, and the Truth about the man who is the greatest guitarist of all time.

This book is a must read for all Jimi Hendrix fans, and for the new fans who don’t know much about Jimi Hendrix.

There is not too much in depth info on Jimi Hendrix, other than references to his music, songs, and front stage antics. We all know he put his 1965 Fender Stratocaster on fire on the stage.

A quick update on Jimi Hendrix’s 1965 Fender Stratocaster.

jimi-hendrix-guitar_burnt

Hendrix’s Stratocaster that he set on fire on stage, had been stored in a garage for over forty years, it was recently discovered.

The burnt 1965 Fender Stratocaster, had recently been sold at an auction for over $400,000.00.

Just listen to some of Jimi Hendrix’s song, and it is undeniable the talent Jimi had, and the wonderful music he shared with us all.

to sum up a description of Jimi Hendrix, it would have to be the following.

Jimi Hendrix, The Man, Magic, Truth, and Legend.

Lady Gaga’s $30 Million Saga

Lady Gaga is being sued by Rob Fusari over royalties owed, claiming to be $30.5 million USD. In the lawsuit it claims Mr. Fusari had already received over $600,000 to date.

Rob Fusari was the co-executive producer on Lady Gaga’s debut album “The Fame” Rob also co-wrote four songs on the album, “Paparazzi”, “Beautiful, Dirty, And Rich”, “Brown Eyes”, and “Disco Heaven”. He also co-wrote “Retro, Dance, Freak”, and “Again Again” which was on the European release of The Fame.

Lady Gaga and Rob Fusari

Rob Fusari, is responsible for Lady Gaga’s fame, when he met her in 2006, he helped transform her from a rock artist to a dance artist. He is also the one who came up with her stage name “Lady Gaga”. Rob and Lady Gaga were romantically involved with each other in her early stages of her career. Rob was also the one who got her a record deal in the early days.

Lady Gaga is not his first success as a song writer with an artist. Rob had worked and written songs for Destiny’s Child. He wrote “Bootylicous”, “Apple Pie A La Mode”, “Happy ace”, and “Thank You” for their Survivor album.

Rob also worked with Whitney Houston’s comeback album, with a song he wrote “Love That Man” which reached # 1 on the Billboard dance charts.

The lawsuit against Lady Gaga is for $30.5 million, which has some people doubting, that she has even made that much, and if she has made that much, he is not entitled to $30.5 million. The Gaga Saga continues…

Lady Gaga: Fashionate Front Stage Saga

Lady Gaga continues her phenomenal saga. Making head lines, fashion statements and making her mark on the music scene, as well as the fashion scene. Will we see Lady Gaga on the catwalk one day?

To understand a little more on the Lady Gaga Phenomenon, you could read or previous post Lady Gaga: Phenomenon, Satire, or Good Marketing?.

Lady Gaga’s flair for fashion, glamour and abundant style is something that can’t be denied. Fashion designers around the world are on cloud nine, as they have a high profile celebrity walking the urban catwalk everyday. Lady Gaga’s Haute Couture might become casual women’s fashion.

Lady-Gaga-FashionateDesigners such as Jimmy Choo, Valentino, Fendi, Givenchy, and Armani are franticly designing outrageous outfits, shoes and handbags for the Poker Face Paparazzi singer.

Lady Gaga’s passion, desire, fashion, and fame have earned her a new title of Fashionate woman.

As in the lyrics of her song Fashion

“Fashion put it all on me, Don't you want to see these clothes on me”

Fashionate Front Stage Lady Gaga.

When she comes out with a new album she could name it Fashionate Front Stage Lady Gaga or Fashionate Front Stage Saga.

Lady Gaga: Behind the Fame

In little over a year Lady Gaga went from struggling as a performer in New York to the an over night sensation and phenomenon.

From her outrageous outfits to elaborate live shows and out-spoken politics, her life is one grand performance.

In Lady Gaga: Behind the Fame, Emily Herbert goes into detail,  behind the costumes and the gossip to find out how Stefani Germanotta, the self-confessed "weird-girl" transformed herself into the most talked about pop figure of the new decade.

An interesting read about the “Mother Monster”. A must read for all “Little Monsters”.

Since 2008 with the release of The Fame, and 2009’s The Fame Monster, we all know who Lady Gaga is. Lady Gaga is a Fashionate woman with style, flair, and artistic etiquette.

Lady Gaga, Acoustic Live Paparazzi

Here is a clip of Lady Gaga Live in Australia, at the Chappell.

Great Live performance of Paparazzi on the acoustic piano.

She does have a great voice, and she is quite the piano player.

Live in Australia, Lady Gaga is in style and on key as always. Her performance here is just simply stunning, not only with her playing, but her singing, and her style of vocals.

Lady Gaga performs many acoustic versions of her songs at different concerts, but the best shows are always the smaller venues, where you can hear he voice carry without the echo of a large stadium or arena.

Paparazzi played acoustic style I find is much better than her studio version, but that CD track is just as good.
