Adam Lambert: The Quest for Platinum

Adam Lambert, the successful runner up from American Idol (Season 8) is on a quest for platinum. Adam's debut album "For Year Entertainment" is close to reaching platinum status in the US. As Adam is recording his follow up album, he is hoping to reach that platinum sales plateau, which is within reach with over 800,000 units sold already.

Whataya Want From Me is one of the best selling singles from his album "For Your Entertainment" selling over 1,6 million copies in the US alone. It is a great classic pop rock song, that really makes Adam Lambert shine as a vocalist and performer. The song has also earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

For Your Entertainment Track Listing:
  1. Music Again
  2. For Your Entertainment
  3. Whataya Want from Me
  4. Strut
  5. Soaked
  6. Sure Fire Winners
  7. A Loaded Smile
  8. If I Had you
  9. Pick U Up
  10. Fever
  11. Sleepwalker
  12. Aftermath
  13. Broken Open

Life on the Front Stage:
Adam is no stranger to the stage, he has been a public performer since he was a young boy. Performing as a stage actor, he has performed in many onstage musicals and toured before he became famous as a recording artist. All the plays and musicals, just added as training for a life in music. This is proof, that Adam Lambert is not a fly by night singing contest finalist. (Sarcastic pun intended).

In 2009 Adam decided to try out for American Idol (Season 8) which proved to be quite beneficial to him. It was predicted early in the season, by the judges, that Adam would go to the finals. Adam did go to the final and finished as the runner up. Through out the season 8 Adam performed a great mixture of pop and classic rock songs, which suited him well for his vocal style and performance.

During American Idol an apparent smear campaign was conducted against him, with some publishing photos of Lambert and another male being intimate. Adam admitted his sexual orientation and stated he was not ashamed nor, did he have anything to hide. Adam handled the situation in a very diplomatic way, and continued the season, and it did not effect his ratings as a singer and performer on American Idol.

Quest for Platinum:
Currently Adam Lambert is recording his second album in the studio, which is rumored to be a great album to come. With his vocal style and panache this is bound to be a much anticipated follow up album.
Adam Lambert possess all the qualities of a star performer, and successful one at that. With his flamboyant style, attitude and charisma he will be a successful artist always.

Adam Lambert is the male version of Lady Gaga all the elements are there, from vocals and style to marketing and performing.

Will Adam Lambert's debut album "For Your Entertainment" reach Platinum sales status before he releases his next album? We hope it does, he is an artist that deserves to cross the finish line.

Adam Lambert's album sales to date are approximately over 800,000 in the US, another 200,000 units need to be sold to have the RIAA certification of Platinum.

I love Adam, he has such style, and really cute too. Thank you for such a wonderful article, I like the you talked about his openness, without using the G word, very classy.

I agree with you Adam Lambert is the male version of Lady Gaga.

Adam is not the male version of Gaga. He's unique. He said in an interview that he adores her, but he's not the male Gaga.

Thank you Anonymous for your comment. It was meant as a compliment to Adam, on his abilities as a singer, and style.

I did not say this was a quote from Adam Lambert himself.

Great article on Adam, we all love him so much. I agree with first comment made. This is probably the first article I have read, that discusses it, yet not mentioning details.
Its gonna be Platinum.

Great article and Adam is everything you described and more. I believe his 2nd album will be even better than FYE which is hard to compete with as it contains so many great songs which I still listen to everyday. Adam is unique and shouldn't be compared to anyone. I think sales numbers are higher 817K & according to RCA it's CD's shipped not sold.

Thank you for your comment Sherry, much appreciated. I am looking forward to his 2nd album, for sure it will be a great album, as he would have matured since his debut album, and of course his singing will be top notch, since coming off of the Glam Nation tour.

Interesting point you made on the sales numbers, and shipments, they are two different scenarios. Either way, still good numbers for a debut artist.

I agree Adam is quite unique, which makes him special and stand out against a manufactured band or singer.

I wished RCA would let Adam do another single. That would help with sales. Does his music get pllayed on the radio much? I have to say that I listen to his music and wouldn't know. When I am at the gym I never hear his songs. Why isn't he up for any Billboard awards. I voted a ton of times for fan favorite. I doubt that is will help. Everyone knows he has a huge fan base. It's his music that should be getting noticed.

Thanks for your comment, it would be nice to hear a new song from Adam right now. I am sure the promo team at RCA are working on a marketing plan for Adam's next album. Timing... is everything.

I love Adam. He gave us all a breath of fresh music with slight twist of the old artist from 70/80s. Wish this dumb old fashioned society would forget his sleep choices thats private. Buy the CD for what hr intended singing and "entertainment". We unfortunately arent sleeping with him, so enjoy the music it has nothing to do with sexual preference. Their are still ignorant ones out there that wont buy it for that reason, or even take a listen. Your the ones missing out.
Its 5/20/2011 the world will end at 6pm today haha and u never got to enjoy it dumbasses. Just saying. If dnt end today they next prediction is next year 12/2012. So listen before then. Your loss.
I bet there os CDs in your collection of gay "closeted" artist, at least hes honest.

Thank you for your comment Pamela, indeed I agree with you thousand percent. Adam is a breath of fresh air in the music nowadays. "For Your Entertainment" is a great CD, and his second album is going to rock.

Yeah that makes me laugh how some people are turned off by his sexual preference.

This amazes me, because these same people listen to artists like. Queen, Elton John, David Bowie... I can't even list them all too many, and guess what people? yeah all Gay.

An artist needs to be judged by his or her music, not their lifestyle.

Where do you see Adam in five years? Do you think he will be as epic as we think he is? He is such a talent. As a fan I want him to be huge. It seems that his fan base consists of middle aged women ( I am one). Does this make for sustainability? I realize we are in his corner 100%. To have a fan base that supports him in his charities, to the tune of almost one million dollars says a lot. I went to 11 of his concerts. Many of us went to multiple concerts. I met a lady that had attended 50 concerts. We are committed. I can't believe all the forums that are out there about him. I don't know if other artists have the same passion in their fan base. Please comment.

Thanks for your comment.
First I must say Adam does have a huge following and fan base, that is extremely loyal, that alone is a huge asset to any artist, and I am sure Adam is grateful for that.

Glamberts in my opinion are open minded, open hearted and LOYAL.

I think we will see Adam shift slightly in musical style, as well as visual style. This is inevitable and must be done, in order to bring in new fans, otherwise he will be a stale artist. The next 2 to 3 albums we will or should I say, might see this change. What direction musically will he go? That is a tough question to answer, but I think he might go more in a hard rock style, but mainstream. (hope that makes sense?)

Adam is a gifted artist, performer and singer, he is capable of being versatile, and this will be his strongest strength as an artist.

Hope that answers your question, and it is a hard one to answer, but that is my point of view on where he needs go musically.

and one last word. Glamberts ROCK!

I just wanted to respond to Anon 5/21/11 8:03 regarding Adam's "older" fan base. I found this interesting & surprising.

Yesterday, there was an article floating around twitter about 2 competing casinos...Thunder Valley & another nearby (forget the name), and how John Fogerty was performing at one on the same night as the remaining members of Credence Clearwater Revival were at the other.

The article was referencing the need to draw an older, boomer crowd which had the resources to spend/gamble. It mentioned that Adam, who had played Thunder Valley last year, drew an audience that was too young. Yep, surprise to me, too.

However, I'm one of those Glamberts who also traveled from the US to Europe & saw 6 GN concerts overseas, as well as 8 in the US. His European audiences are generally much younger 20-somethings because most know him from radio play, not Idol.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. :)

Thanks for your comment, very interesting on European fans. On the other comment about older fans, that was interesting to me too.

If you are comparing Justin Bieber fans to Adam Lambert's, then yes Adam has an older and more mature fan base. Also Adam's music, persona are more of a mature type, OUR type.

Thanks again for your comment and input.

I am not an older fan. I'm in my early 20's, my sister is 16 and we both just love Adam to pieces (as do our friends). Adam has a lot of fans in their teens and 20's. Looks like he crosses all generations; he's just that good. My mom said he reminds her of Elvis.

Adam Lambert will be the greatest entertainer of this century, and it mystifies me as to why FYE did not go platinum ages ago; the AMA's, the unfortunate homophobic attitude still prevalent in the country; does anyone have any ideas? I have had the pleasure of seeing Adam perform live quite a few times and there is no one else like him; the man has charisma and stage presence in spades and has no equal vocally in the music industry. It also helps that he is the sexiest man walking and in addition is a warm, friendly, approachable man who is generous with his time to his fans and magnanimous and altruistic as well. Adam is the real package and he will not only change the face of music as we know it; he will change viewpoints and philosophies of many people in this country and around the world as well. I am an Adam fan for life!!

I think Adam's next album will be amazing and go platinum much more quickly. He was very smart to do his tour not only in the U.S. but internationally. Adam has gained a lot of new fans and very devoted ones at that. I have never been so crazy about an artist. He has the whole package. Vocals that can sing any type of music plus looks, charisma, and personality. He will be iconic!

Love all these comments. Have never doubted Adam will be iconic. Of course there will be bumps in the road. That's a given when you're such a unique, wacky persona. (That's Reason #15 why I love Adam Lambert so much. )

I think what this guy meant when he said that Adam is the male version of Gaga, he referred to similar stage presence, vocals and abilities as an entertainer, not a copy of Gaga. I agree! But society still has to get rid of all the prejudices and give Adam Lambert the place he deserves... just like Gaga and other female singers have. I hope the world recognizes him as an Icon soon enough!
Thanks for this article!

I can't wait for Adam's second album to sell less than half of what the first one did. The Glamberts need the reality check. He is not going to be iconic. Only the delusional think that way. He's seen the peak of his career already. All he can do now is go down.

I appreciate that you always respond. My name is Vicki. I don't know how to get if from said... My question is about Lady Gaga's performace last night. She simulated sexual intercourse and there is no backlash or outrage. Adam does it at the AMA awards and he is treated like a pariah at ABC. It seems very unfair.

Krule Music said...
May 26, 2011 at 1:43 PM

Thank you for your comment Vicky,
I hear ya. Lady Gaga, Britney, Christina, I can keep naming them, with on stage antics, they have done for shock and awe marketing.

I am not going to sugar coat it. Unfortunately the music business and or entertainment has double standards and is biased when money is involved, its the cold hard truth.

I don't think I have to go into details, I know you understand where I am going with this.

The only thing we can do, is to have continued and unconditional support for the artists that we love.

hi George!
i was so thrilled to see this piece - thank you! You're so right - Adam is an artist that deserves to reach Platinum status - his debut CD is rock solid - not a duff track on the entire album.
The Quest For Platinum is still on!!!
We're all anxioulsy anticiapting Adam's sophomore album. very excited that Adam will be doing some more co-writing! so wonderful of him to share some of the details regarding the albums progress thus far with us.
His Glam Nation Live DVD/CD has almost achieved Gold Status and it's getting rave reviews.
If FYE doesn't sell platinum before the release of his 2nd album, it most likely will afterwards, as new fans will want to add that cd to their collection. i think the success of the GNT Live will also help get FYE to Platinum. i've gifted FYE & GNT Live to many of my non-Glambert friends, and they all said that they would most definitley buy Adam's next album!!
Thanks again for your awesome piece. FYE Quest for Platinum - within reach!!!!

I agree its a solid album, I have done the same here, had a person (non fan) listen to Whataya Want From Me, and she was amazed at Adam's singing.

Great album. Thanks again Louise.

I'm a huge fan of Adam's and I have both his FYE and GlamNation Live Album and DVD. If others have not gotten that one also, please do so. The arrangements are different, and so excellent. What a great singer he is. I don't think he's like Gaga. He is far more conservative than she is. Which is good, because of lately I'm getting a little concerned, but she is pure show biz, and a believer, so I highly respect her creativity and over the top theatrics. She definitely gives us all something to watch, listen to and feel. Her songs are always superb. She's not much different than Cher was...always making a public statement. It's just part of who she is. But Adam is a sweetheart, who wants to love and be loved. Also, to be the best he can be in music, songwriting, theater, movies, and as a human being. He's one of the good ones.

Lady Gaga is a smart girl, and understands the industry, and marketing and public awareness play a major role in an artists life, and livelihood. I like the way she does things, its all methodically mapped out...

the Mother Monster knows whats best.

I actually just got GlamNation today, going to watch it tomorrow, and I can't wait.
